Inside Avenue Magazine: Shoe Heaven

Shoe Heaven

One thing is certain, no ensemble is complete without a great pair of shoes. Any fashion conscious individual who has been in SL for a while, knows how hard it used to be to come by nice shoes. Fortunately for us, all that has changed. SL has been graced with a growing number of talented designers who've supplied us with more and more extraordinary styles that make avatar feet look remarkable.

Indeed, the footwear industry has come a long way, and there are several fabulous new styles available for both men and women. For a closer look at some of this hot brand new footwear, check out AVENUE Magazine's monthly Trend Report entitled "Shoe Heaven" on page 90 of the September Edition.

AVENUE of Life Fashionista Auction

Artists, fashionistas, all sort of SLebrities and many curious Avatars all gathered yesterday in the dazzling setting of AVENUE's sky runway to be at the AVENUE Of Life Fashionista Auction, to give theircontribution to the American Cancer Society's RFL 2009 campaign.
Hosted by the always charming Jackson Vantelli, this glamorous event kicked off with the auction of Mischa Cuttita who despite the heavy lag managed to reach the stage and was auctioned for 7,000L$ to Frolic Mills who will enjoy her company on a shopping spree.

Yes, because unlike most charity auctions which put up clothes or jewels, AVENUE auction had a bit of a twist whereby the winning bidder wouldget two hours with the avatar who was up on the stand.

The lovely Liane Martens for instance was offering herself for two hours as personal shopper, styling assistant, shape tweaking
assistant, model mentor, model and even interior designer!

The highlight of the evening was when Vixie Rayna went up the stand and started doing a hilarious robot dance. Such an uncommon skill, coupled with her dazzling beauty must have really done the trick because she got bid for the incredible amount of 40,000L$ by Dakota Neumann.

Vixie Rayna and her robot dance

Also the charm and sense of humour of Journey McLaglen who dared the audience to a gesture war didn’t go unnoticed, as she will bestow her lovely company on the lucky Jolie Muircastle who won her for 2 hours by bidding 32,000L$. I wonder, will Journey and Jolie play like noobs for two hours and laugh lots and lots as described in her auction descrption? Or will Journey show Jolie a day in the life of a SL designer as Journey had also stated that she’d be willing to do?

The witty Journey McLaglen

As a fitting end to such a gala the wonderful host Jackson Vantelli and AVENUE’s gorgeous owner Rusch Raymaker both placed themselves on the auction block demonstrating to both be good sports for a great cause.

AVENUE's CEO, the one and only Rusch Raymaker

Host AND dancer? It's Jackson Vantelli!

Here’s the list of participants and how much they were auctioned off for:

Liane Marten sold to Aaron Barack for 7,000L$
Leah McCullough sold to Belle Lefabvre for 5,000L$
Rhonda Pennell sold to Gamp Lane for 4,000 L$
Vixie Rayna sold to Dakota Neuman for 40,000 L$
Takeshi Kiama sold to Tempest Hennesy for 6,000 L$
Journey McLaglen sold to Jolie Muircastle for 32,000 L$
Dancer Dallagio sold to Journey McLaglen for 10,000 L$
Veronica Krasner sold to Chirzaka Vlodovic for 5,000 L$
Laury Sands sold to Nichole Myhre for 5.000 L$
Sapphire Coakes sold to Sheldon Hancroft for 50,000 L$
Jesika Contempomi sold to AnnMarie McCellan for 18,000 L$
Jackson Vantelli sold to CheerCoach4EJS Gymnast for 10,000L$
Rusch Raymaker sold to Ocean Miami for 20,500 L$

During the whole event over 200,000 L$ was raised, which will go entirely to American Cancer Association. This was a great example of a successful and entertaining event created with the sole purpose of raising awareness and helping cancer research.

AVENUE Magazine - Popi by Eshi Otawara

POPI designed by Eshi Otawara

POPI - A symbol of rememberance, you will never be forgotten in this dress.

AVENUE Inc. takes great pleasure to introduce another captivating creation from the design house of Eshi Otawara. Simply titled POPI, Eshi explained that her reason for naming the dress POPI instead of the English spelling of the flower poppy was that Japanese people say it this way. Eshi's homage to Japanese style is seen in her Spring/Winter collection where she has incorporated symbols from Japan into her designs creating a harmonious fusion of fashion and art.

Eshi's POPI dress is reminiscent of the Oriental Poppy with it's splendid array of salmon, pink, red, scarlet orange, deep maroon and white colors. Bee's are highly attracted to the poppy flower and never surprised at Eshi's attention to detail, included in the dress is a stunning bee ring to remind one of their place in natures cycle when wearing this creation.

As with all Eshi's designs, they transcend from her minds eye into the Metaverse as supurbly constructed pieces that fit like a jig saw puzzle and even in movement, everything remains as it should. There is no doubt that Eshi has mastered the mechanics of clothing construction for the avatar which surely means that you will never be disappointed with your purchase.

The bold poppy hat featuring an amazing veil of white netting that softens the face and creates a certain mystery is the jewel in the crown. One can only imagine what the meaning behind the needle like adornments is and I am almost too scared to ask, such is my enjoyment of making my own interpretations of Eshi's work.

In closing, POPI is impeccably constructed and is a credit to Eshi's talents. As an aside, whilst searching locations to shoot the dress, in the space of 20 minutes three people unknown to me messaged in IM to say 'WOW, I love that dress'. That says it all right there.

LA DOLCE VITA - An Italian Fashion Spectacular

AVENUE Models presents LA DOLCE VITA to the runway. A compilation of SL's finest Italian designers, both veterans and new, get together on one stage to showcase their latest collections.

La Dolce Vita, Italian for 'The Sweet Life', was hailed as the most widely seen and acclaimed European film of the 1960's, directed by Federico Fellini. Few realize that Fellini's initial inspiration for the movie was a dress created by designer Cristóbal Balenciaga. Balenciaga was an innovator in his use of fabrics, is noted for contributions to the fashion industry such as the tunic dress and high-waisted baby doll dress, and his sculptural creations were considered masterworks of haute couture in the 1950's and 1960's. La Dolce Vita, reminiscent of Balenciaga's trendsetting creations, depicts the lives of Roman celebrities in the early 60's. Fellini filled the screen with vibrant colors and elegant motions giving one a feeling of sweet dreaminess.

Please join AVENUE Models as they showcase LA DOLCE VITA filling your screen with the same elegance and vibrance of SL's finest Italian collections from Addoro Design, Alatiel Fashions, Anubis Style, Bolero Collection, DD Style, Diorsis Hair Design, Jador Fashion, Lady Thera, and Preciosity of Style. This stellar fashion presentation, conceptualized by director Rusch Raymaker, AVENUE CEO, and managed by AVENUE Designer Liaison Livia Mastroianni, will be given an avant garde treatment in choreography and set design in collaboration with dance choreographer Pyper Dollinger and special appearance by the entertaining and graceful SPIRIT Dazzlers.

When: 8 March 2009 - 1pm SLT

Where: First Meta 11

AVENUE Magazine presents Freak Showroom.

A FREAK SHOW

Freak Showroom starts today and is hosting avatar representations of some of Second Life's finest artists such as Cienage Soon, Loglady Loon, Colemarie Soleil, and Miabella Foxley. These artists are displaying avatars of the freaky nature, designed to challenge the way we think about art and to let us see alternative side to beauty.

As Loglady Loon states in an interview, " The research of Beauty, the obsession for Perfect Avatar. Perfect man, perfect woman. This common vision nauseates me. For this reason I tried to do the opposite process. I wanted to create a Nightmare. I've forced artists to think in opposite sense: leaning toward the Macabre. Generating the Ugly. And the most interesting thing is that this process seems to be more "palpable", more plausible, more human."

The exhibit will run for 15 days. Expect to experience a different kind of exhibit, ranging from weird to macabre, here: Freak Showroom.
