AVENUE Magazine - Popi by Eshi Otawara

POPI designed by Eshi Otawara

POPI - A symbol of rememberance, you will never be forgotten in this dress.

AVENUE Inc. takes great pleasure to introduce another captivating creation from the design house of Eshi Otawara. Simply titled POPI, Eshi explained that her reason for naming the dress POPI instead of the English spelling of the flower poppy was that Japanese people say it this way. Eshi's homage to Japanese style is seen in her Spring/Winter collection where she has incorporated symbols from Japan into her designs creating a harmonious fusion of fashion and art.

Eshi's POPI dress is reminiscent of the Oriental Poppy with it's splendid array of salmon, pink, red, scarlet orange, deep maroon and white colors. Bee's are highly attracted to the poppy flower and never surprised at Eshi's attention to detail, included in the dress is a stunning bee ring to remind one of their place in natures cycle when wearing this creation.

As with all Eshi's designs, they transcend from her minds eye into the Metaverse as supurbly constructed pieces that fit like a jig saw puzzle and even in movement, everything remains as it should. There is no doubt that Eshi has mastered the mechanics of clothing construction for the avatar which surely means that you will never be disappointed with your purchase.

The bold poppy hat featuring an amazing veil of white netting that softens the face and creates a certain mystery is the jewel in the crown. One can only imagine what the meaning behind the needle like adornments is and I am almost too scared to ask, such is my enjoyment of making my own interpretations of Eshi's work.

In closing, POPI is impeccably constructed and is a credit to Eshi's talents. As an aside, whilst searching locations to shoot the dress, in the space of 20 minutes three people unknown to me messaged in IM to say 'WOW, I love that dress'. That says it all right there.

AVENUE Magazine introduces new hair from ESHI OTAWARA

OTOHIME – Hair

Eshi Otawara announces a new hair release, Otohime. This hair comes in black, white, silver, red, and champagne. The hair is long and flowing, with a hair knot suspended by a cylinder which contains dragon detailing from a RL painting she has done, which was also the inspiration for one of her earliest conceptualized limited edition dresses. Hanging from this cylinder is a long banded ponytail of hair that drapes the length of the hair. This hair continues the Japanese theme of her Spring Collection.

The sea dragon shown in the picture comes from a Japanese story of the God of the Sea, Ryujin, who lives in a sea palace, controls the tides, and was the father of Otohime, who was known as the beautiful “Luminous Jewel,” and was the grandmother of the first Emperor of Japan. This made the powerful Ryujin the ancestor of the whole Japanese dynasty.

GABBY - Hair

Also newly released is the Gabby Hair in black, which is Eshi's donation to the RFL. All proceeds from the sale of this short style which features feathered bangs and a pulled back section of banded hair with a hair clip will be donated to the RFL Charity.

The Otohime Hair and Gabby Hair are both available both in her Eshi Otawara store at Blumfield.

LA DOLCE VITA - An Italian Fashion Spectacular

AVENUE Models presents LA DOLCE VITA to the runway. A compilation of SL's finest Italian designers, both veterans and new, get together on one stage to showcase their latest collections.

La Dolce Vita, Italian for 'The Sweet Life', was hailed as the most widely seen and acclaimed European film of the 1960's, directed by Federico Fellini. Few realize that Fellini's initial inspiration for the movie was a dress created by designer Cristóbal Balenciaga. Balenciaga was an innovator in his use of fabrics, is noted for contributions to the fashion industry such as the tunic dress and high-waisted baby doll dress, and his sculptural creations were considered masterworks of haute couture in the 1950's and 1960's. La Dolce Vita, reminiscent of Balenciaga's trendsetting creations, depicts the lives of Roman celebrities in the early 60's. Fellini filled the screen with vibrant colors and elegant motions giving one a feeling of sweet dreaminess.

Please join AVENUE Models as they showcase LA DOLCE VITA filling your screen with the same elegance and vibrance of SL's finest Italian collections from Addoro Design, Alatiel Fashions, Anubis Style, Bolero Collection, DD Style, Diorsis Hair Design, Jador Fashion, Lady Thera, and Preciosity of Style. This stellar fashion presentation, conceptualized by director Rusch Raymaker, AVENUE CEO, and managed by AVENUE Designer Liaison Livia Mastroianni, will be given an avant garde treatment in choreography and set design in collaboration with dance choreographer Pyper Dollinger and special appearance by the entertaining and graceful SPIRIT Dazzlers.

When: 8 March 2009 - 1pm SLT

Where: First Meta 11

AVENUE Magazine presents Freak Showroom.

A FREAK SHOW

Freak Showroom starts today and is hosting avatar representations of some of Second Life's finest artists such as Cienage Soon, Loglady Loon, Colemarie Soleil, and Miabella Foxley. These artists are displaying avatars of the freaky nature, designed to challenge the way we think about art and to let us see alternative side to beauty.

As Loglady Loon states in an interview, " The research of Beauty, the obsession for Perfect Avatar. Perfect man, perfect woman. This common vision nauseates me. For this reason I tried to do the opposite process. I wanted to create a Nightmare. I've forced artists to think in opposite sense: leaning toward the Macabre. Generating the Ugly. And the most interesting thing is that this process seems to be more "palpable", more plausible, more human."

The exhibit will run for 15 days. Expect to experience a different kind of exhibit, ranging from weird to macabre, here: Freak Showroom.

I Wanna Be A Celebrity - PRESS RELEASE

I WANNA BE A CELEBRITY
Metaverse Broadcasting Channel (MBC), pioneers of the virtual media movement have teamed with Phaylen Fairchild, creator of Second Life's first sitcom and AVENUE Magazine to create a brand new reality series to be filmed in the virtual world of Second Life™.

The six part series takes six contestants from around the globe and pits them against one another in various skill-based challenges. Each week, the contestants will meet with a Mentor, an expert in a specific field where they will learn and develop skills which they will later be judged upon.

This is the first Virtual Reality series not based upon public votes, but solely on skill development and enthusiasm for learning. At the end of each round, the winner will receive an exclusive award and one contestant will be eliminated from the competition. Skills that will be put to the test encompass most of those specific to Second Life including building, photography, performance, avatar customization, social engagement and collaboration. Along the way, they will be aided by some of Second Life's most accomplished professional’s intent on guiding them down the path to becoming a Virtual Superstar.

At the end of the six week competition, the winner will receive a development deal with MBC, an opportunity to star in their own show where their talent will be nurtured and their work celebrated. "There are so many vastly and diversely talented people out there," Fairchild said," ... And this is an opportunity to bridge the gap between the magnificent creatives out there, and the people with the ability to give them the exposure, recognition and assistance they deserve." Robustus Hax, Metaverse CEO added, "There are so many amazing people out there operating beneath the radar due to the sheer size of our world - this effort is not us saying that some people deserve a chance to be seen and heard more so than others, this is simply a fun format in which to acknowledge the efforts and foster the Second Life skills of our resident peers in a lighthearted, immersive and entertaining medium. Hopefully we manage to enrich the Second Life experience of everyone involved while we're at it. There are no real losers here."

I WANNA BE A CELEBRITY begins airing in the spring. The first rounds of auditions, which began on January 9th and will continue until February 10th, are being held at Metaverse City and are open to everyone of every shape, size, and culture. The show will be hosted by Second Life veteran and radio personality Trinity Serpentine.

METAVERSE BROADCASTING CHANNEL has been a pioneer of New Media in Second Life since 2007, and has created several highly rated series in the Second Life platform, including MBC News, Out & About with Dousa Dragonash and other shows currently in production. MBC was the official carrier of The Second Life political debate and live streaming of the Second Life Fifth Birthday opening speeches for Linden Lab.
PHAYLEN FAIRCHILD is the creator of DiVAS, Second Life's first sitcom which began its run in 2007 and is currently in its second season. She has also organized some of Second Life's primary annual events such as Day Of Remembrance, Second Life's Fifth Birthday festivities and the in-world SLCC broadcasts. Imagine stepping onto the set of “Phantom of the Opera” meets “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” and you would be forgiven for thinking ‘where’s the fashion show?’ The EXXESS Designs fashion show aptly titled “Of Vamps & Vixens” produced by AVENUE Models once again proved to be a creative and inspired partnership.Held on the 7th of December 2008, the set at Royal Dreamscape was dark, brooding and exuded Gothic romanticism, the perfect venue to showcase the latest releases from EXXESS Designs creator, Layja Vidor. Revering the darker side of feminine sexuality, AVENUE Models Georgie Lyle, Shenandoah Saintlouis, Kryptonia Paperdoll, Olyvia Zenovka, Queenie Extraordinaire, Liane Maertens. Leah McCullough, Chamonix Boudreaux and Valeria Pienaar commanded the runway to great effect. The audience was transported to a darker world and was captivated by a profusion of black velvets, lace, fishnets and leather, accessorized with tightly laced corsets, gloves, precarious stilettos and silver jewelry. “Vamps and Vixens” was an outstanding success and those present made their feelings known by the acclamation emanating from the gallery. Treated to an amazing after party hosted by DJ Diaphoni Galicia, guests and models celebrated the brilliance of Lavja Vidor’s designs.Produced and conceptualized by AVENUE Models’ CEO Rusch Raymaker in collaboration with builder and designer of Ztique, Zasa Rossini, “Vamps and Vixens” was another AVENUE triumph. For your viewing pleasure, please click on the video below to once again share in the fantasy created by AVENUE Models and EXXESS Designs.
